Long-Term Positions on ETF's?

I have very little experience with ETF's and actually the two that caught my eye the most were Palladium and Platinum...both of which are up today.

My Top 5 ETF's

1) GLD...gold (safest)   $136

3) PPLT....platinum $169
4) XES/XOP...oil equipment/oil exploration  $36.50/$51
5) SPY...s&p 500   $124



...analysts expect Silver (SLV) to take a drop due to the recent gains..however, it is up today $29
